RP Basics(2)

Now that we have our template written down lets look at each one separately.

Step # 1 Choosing a Race

Choosing a race is the first step in creating any character. Determining the race gives us the basic information needed determine most of the rest of the information. There are a multitude of races to choose from. A few examples that most have some familiarity with are Elves, Humans, Drow or Dark Elves, Dwarves, Trolls, Orcs, Goblins and Daemons. Again those are just a few examples. Some have even went a step further and created their own unique race that has never been seen or heard of before. The most important thing to choosing a race is to pick one you know something about. If you chose a race that you know nothing about you will have a very hard time trying to play the character. So try to stick with something you know. Now lets get back to Ed our fictional player who is creating his very first character. Ed has never even read a fantasy novel so he knows absolutely nothing about any special or odd races. The most common and best choice for a person who has never role played before is Human. Choosing human gives you allot of options that you can use later in creation such as hair and skin color. Now lets fill in the Character Race and Player Name sections of our template and take look at our template again now that Ed has chosen a race.

Now that we have filled our information in on our template lets move on to step two.

Step # 2 Choosing Skin Color

Now that we have chosen a race lets start to take a look at what your character is going to look like. Skin color is a good place to start. Choosing skin color tells quite a bit about your character. Is he a red skinned daemon? A well tanned smith? A green skinned goblin? As you can see each choice tells us allot right at the start. Now lets get back to Ed. Ed has thought allot about his character. Ed has decided that his character has white skin but is well tanned. Now with that information in mind lets fill in the line labeled character skin color on our template and take a look at it now that Ed has filled in this information.

Player Name:Ed

Character Name:

Character Sex:

Character Race:Human

Character Age:

Character Skin Color:White(well tanned)

Character Hair Color and Style:

Now that we have filled our information in on our template lets move on to step three.

Step # 3 Choosing Hair color and style

Lets continue to work on what you want your character to look like. The next step is to decide what color and style you want your characters hair to have. Choose a hair color for your character. Keep in mind that your starting hair color is limited to the choices you are given during the character creation process unless you want to pay the extremely expensive price for neon hair dye. With all that in mind lets choose a hair color for Ed's character. Ed likes blond hair so he chose blond hair. Now lets look at hair style a moment. Again remember you are limited to just the choices allowed during character creation. He has short hair himself so he gave his character long hair. Lets add this information to our character template and take a look at it.

Character Name:

Character Sex:

Character Race:Human

Character Age:

Character Skin Color:White(well tanned)

Character Hair Color and Style:Blond,Long

Now that we have filled our information in on our template lets move on to step four.

Step # 4 Choosing an age

Choosing an age may seem like an one of the simpler steps, however this is not the case when creating a role-playing character. Choosing your characters age determines a great deal about how the world will precieve your character. First lets look at what you want to do with your character. Is your character going to be a great warrior, or legendary wizard. Or is your character the youngest child in a large family just starting out his adventuring career. Think a few moments about what your going to actually be. Think about how old your character would have to be to fit the role. With this in mind lets get back to Ed. Ed has decided he wants to be a great and powerful sorcerer. Ed thought it over and decided he wanted his character to be about 35 years old figuring that to become a good sorcerer he would have had to study for many years. Now that Ed has chosen his character age lets look at our character template again.
